Job description
We are an established South Essex Timber Merchant looking for a permanent flatbed Van Driver with proactive organisation skills and a warm friendly approach towards people.
We are not just looking for a driver to transport wood products from A to B. If that were the case, we would just get them couriered! Think of the role as a mobile ‘Customer Satisfaction Consultant’ who will be the final piece of our dedicated customer service journey process by delivering the end product with our renowned passion.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a real proactive ‘thought process’ i.e. calling customers in advance of delivery, determining the best place(s) to park and/or offload, ensuring unloading assistance for the customer, collating paperwork and liaising with HQ to provide a ‘heads up’ on any arising issues.
If you like to just drive on your own all day, drop things off at the doormat with minimal engagement, then this is not the role for you.
On the delivery side, you will be delivering various loads of wood products, such as decking, fencing, panels, MDF boards and associated components.
You will usually take up to 3 drops per ‘load’ with most runs taking place in the RM, SS and CM postcodes against the flow of usual city bound traffic.
The deliveries are usually a mix of trade and residential deliveries. Due to the nature of the work, heavy lifting is unavoidable as you will be delivering the items to the customers required point (not just kerb side) and whilst the majority of deliveries are offloaded with additional help at the point of delivery, there are occasions where you will need to offload items yourself. Rest assured you will usually receive assistance in loading the van for deliveries.
Due to insurance restrictions; you must have held a clean driving license for at least 2 years and be over the age of 25.
Hours of work:
Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 5pm to include 1 hour for lunch
