Job summary
IPSA is an independent body that regulates and administers the business costs and decides the pay and pensions of the 650 elected Members of Parliament and their staff in the UK. In fact, we were the first independent regulator of its kind in any of the world’s democracies.
Our mission is simple: we want to enable MPs to do what really matters by providing an exemplary, seamless regulatory service. We’re guided by our values and our brilliant, inclusive culture ensures we’re not only a great place to work but that we can also constantly adapt, evolve and improve everything we do so that we can meet our customers' needs.

Working at IPSA
Job description
To help us deliver our mission, we’re looking for a new Validation Officer to join our team who will validate expenses and ensure compliance with the Scheme of MP’s Staffing and Business Costs. This is a brilliant opportunity for a dynamic, methodical and self-motivated individual who is excited by working for an organisation which places integrity, transparency and customer service at the heart of what it does.
Validation Officer responsibilities include:
- Assessing the validity of MPs’ business costs and expenses. Identifying claims that fall outside the Scheme, escalating queries and areas of concern as appropriate. This will include working with large data sets, which requires a high level of attention to detail.
- Ensuring that MPs and their staff fully understand the requirements of the Scheme and enabling compliance by providing clear and accurate notes when returning or not paying expense claims and/or providing appropriate advice on how to make the claim compliant, if appropriate. This includes working collaboratively with colleagues across IPSA to provide effective and consistent communication to stakeholders.
Supporting IPSA’s compliance and service delivery functions, by keeping abreast of Scheme and Policy changes, and special circumstances relating to individual MPs. Ensure the instruction resulting from the specific circumstance is applied when validating claims.
Justifying and explaining to relevant stakeholders why a particular determination was made during the validation process, as required.
Contributing to the overall development of the Validation team, its processes, and activities to achieve the organisations key objectives.
- Reflecting IPSA’s values of staying connected, seeing the bigger picture, being open, doing the right thing and making a difference through all that you do.
Person specification
You’ll live and breathe IPSA’s values and be able to demonstrable how your experience and ways of working align with these. You’ll approach validation and compliance with the Scheme with a customer service mindset and you’ll appreciate how your work and actions will contribute to our customer’s experience, rather than just a transactional process. You’ll be a pragmatic problem-solver and a great communicator being able to justify your validation rationale clearly to our customers with empathy and offering solutions where you can. You’ll be excited by analysing large amounts and approach each validation request logically, with curiosity and inquisitiveness and with impeccable attention to detail.
You’ll be joining a high-performing team where resilience is a key attribute, and given the remit of the role, the ability to work dynamically with an unwavering commitment to meeting our service level metrics.
A full job description and person specification is available on the ‘current vacancies’ section on our website.
