Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Product leadership and cross-functional teams to understand product goals, gather requirements, and envision user-centered digital solutions.
- Work with JED’s Design & Impact team to plan, conduct, and interpret user research to crystalize users' needs, preferences, and behavior. This may include but isn’t limited to user surveys, interviews, and usability/desirability testing.
- Create wireframes and prototypes to demonstrate solutions and gather feedback across a wide variety of users, partners and internal stakeholders.
- Organize and structure JED’s product content through information architecture that is intuitive and easy to navigate.
- Define how users interact with JED digital products or features and design user flows and interactions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are accurately implemented and aligned with product goals and technical requirements.
- Leverage inclusive design principles to ensure JED products address the needs of diverse users across age, culture, economic situation, education, gender, geographic location, language, race and accessibility.
- Help to develop and support a test-and-learn strategy that enables continuous improvements.
- Leverage data and conduct user testing to identify areas for improvement and iterate on designs based on user feedback.
- Develop and maintain a broad spectrum of experience design artifacts to support organizational needs throughout the product life cycle, including but not limited to: UX research insights, user journey and information architecture diagrams, wireframes and low fidelity prototypes, high fidelity clickable prototypes and UX/UI design systems, etc.
- Continuously research and stay current with industry trends and product design best practices.
- Ensure digital products are accessible and meet web accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- 3+ years of experience in UX design, with a portfolio that highlights multiple projects and your direct contributions
- Bachelor's degree in UX, human-computer interaction or a related field is a plus.
- Proficient with industry-standard design tools (we use Figma)
- Strong understanding of UX best practices, web accessibility guidelines, and responsive design principles.
- Experience with user research and usability testing.
- Familiarity with front-end development technologies and their capabilities and limitations, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strong communication leadership and ability to articulate design decisions based on research and best practice
- Passion for designing solutions that improve the user experience, focusing on social impact and nonprofit work.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize and manage workload and meet critical project deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and work across several products at one time
- Passion for promoting emotional health and preventing suicide among college students.
- Passion for young adult mental health and alignment with JED’s Guiding Principles and Shared Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Antiracism.
Pay Ranges / Location / Travel Information
The range listed on this job posting is based on JED's compensation posting ranges. Salaries may be higher or lower depending on experience and geographic location.
Location/Travel Information:
Please note that this position is largely remote but will require retreat/business meetings at JED’s central office in NYC or other locations as designated by JED leadership. Additional travel may be required.
