The role in a nutshell
We're looking for a Lead Interaction Designer to join a multi-disciplinary Agile team to help deliver rapid but great quality experiences for users. You'll play an important role in helping us to develop our Interaction Design specialism within our wider design practice.
What you can expect
Working as part of a user-centred design team, you'll be backed by a broad knowledge of Interaction Design standards, principles and guidelines and hands on experience of using the government prototyping kit. You're used to getting stuck in to create solutions in response to the problems, ideas and opportunities you help extract from users and stakeholders. You drive your design decisions and rationalise them using research data, design principles, prototypes and the resulting user-testing insights, either through working alongside user researchers, or conducting some research yourself. You will be most effective when collaborating with engineers, content designers, user researchers, and other team members to respond to the challenges of any project. As well as being hands on you will be comfortable leading a team whilst coaching and mentoring others.
The type of person we are looking for
- Experience of Agile working including leading and coaching teams in an Agile way determining the right approach for the team to achieve the right outcomes.
- Ability to adapt your communication style to suit both technical and non technical audiences.
- Experience of managing and leading diverse teams. Building and maintaining a psychologically safe environment.
- Experienced in coaching and mentoring fellow Interaction Designers. Building skills and expertise in those around you.
- You are a user focussed designer with the ability to demonstrate experience in meeting the needs of users across a variety of channels.
- You are a problem solver, driven to find ways for users to easily navigate the hardest challenges
- Proven ability in Prototyping - able to use a variety of prototyping methods including the GOV.UK prototyping kit, and can share best practice with others.
- Proven ability and skills in prototyping in code. You are able to create and validate dynamic prototypes.
- You are a Strategic thinker that can lead the design and implementation of design strategy, directing the evaluation of strategies and policies to ensure effective delivery
- A proven background in the Public Sector most specifically working extensively with the Gov.uk Toolkit/Framework
