User Researcher Internship Sheffield, England

Siemens Digital Industries Software
Full Time Sheffield, England 10.56 - 12.04 GBP Today
Job description

We are Siemens

Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

The Siemens Sheffield office now forms a hub for user-centred design practice within Siemens Product Engineering Software. The customer experience team is a multi-disciplinary team formed of Product Designers and User Researchers.

What we’re looking For

Are you a recent graduate, or someone who’s opted for a placement within their degree course? Are you looking to start your career as a user researcher with a focus on enterprise applications? Are you ready to help change perceptions that enterprise applications are not user friendly and are complicated to learn and master?

Your degree should contain a high level of human behaviour content, and you should have an exceptional interest in looking beyond what people say and explore what they actually do. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop the skills for a career as a user researcher, and provides you the chance to work directly with a committed team on high impact projects in an exciting and varied environment.

If this sounds like your dream role then please take a moment to meet some of our current interns who share their thoughts on working as an intern at Siemens. If you can picture yourself learning, growing, and succeeding in our team then we would love to hear from you!

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the User Research lead and Design lead you'll work in a small, Agile team tasked with providing actionable customer insights to inform design. As well as being involved in quantitative and qualitative research. You will help design and run usability testing sessions, interviews, surveys, analyse analytics and more along with other user researchers. As a part of the design team you will be focussed on user research but also participate in wider design activities including design sprints and workshops.

What you’ll bring

  • A BSc/MSc/PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Anthropology, Journalism, Sociology, Computer Science, Marketing or similar
  • Understanding of user research and a desire to specialise in UX Research
  • A passion for understanding user needs and their behaviours
  • Keen interest and ideally good knowledge of the study of human behaviour
  • At least theoretical, but ideally applied understanding of some research methods (interviews, usability testing, surveys, data analysis)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills that allow you to present data in an understandable, simplified and concise way both visually and verbally
  • An interest in Software design

A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:

  • Agile software development
  • Design thinking approaches
  • 3D CAD systems
  • Prototyping tools (e.g. figma)
