1. Company Overview
ACT Medical is a small MedTech start-up looking to revolutionise the treatment of open wound catastrophic haemorrhage to reduce mortality from penetrative trauma. Our team consists of passionate individuals who aim to use their education and experience to develop devices that transform healthcare. We are seeking a User Research Intern to join our team for the summer and contribute to the development of our haemorrhage management systems.
2. Position Overview
As a User Research Intern, you will play a crucial role in understanding the needs, preferences, and pain points of our target users. By conducting in-depth interviews and collecting valuable insights, you will help shape the user experience of our medical technologies. This internship will provide you with a unique opportunity to work closely with our cross-functional team, including product designers and engineers, and gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced environment of a MedTech start-up.
3. Responsibilities
· Conduct research and collaborate with the product team to assist in the development of user personas, value propositions and current problem landscaping
· Develop interview protocols, and prepare documentation such as participant information sheets, consent forms and risk assessments
· Create a recruitment strategy for sourcing interview participants and use this to recruit end users
· Conduct user interviews with end users to gather qualitative and quantitative data on user needs and motivations
· Analyse and synthesize research findings to identify key insights and pain point
· Collaborate with the product team to translate user insights into actionable recommendations for the development of medical technologies.
4. Qualifications and Skills
· Currently pursuing or possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Psychology, Sociology, or a related discipline.
· Utilising interpersonal and communication skills to conduct interviews and gather insights
· The ability to derive meaningful conclusions from qualitative and quantitative data.
· Proficiency in organizing and presenting research findings using visualization tools, such as charts, graphs, and presentations.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
· Familiarity and prior experience with user research methods and tools, such as interviews, surveys, usability testing, and data analysis is a plus, but not required
· Existing connections to end users, including US-based paramedics, military personal and trauma surgeons is a plus, but not required
· The successful candidate must, by the start of their employment, have permission to work in the UK
5. Duration and Compensation
This is a full-time summer internship position with an expected duration of 1st August to 15th September. The intern will receive a salary of £19,000 pro rata.
