Job Introduction

Create ground-breaking user experiences across all screens – web, mobile apps, connected TV and games. As well as across BBC’s products: news, sport, iPlayer, sounds, bitesize, weather and Children's. You’ll work with our creative content makers and technologists to make sure all our products and services are accessible to all our users.

  • Start Date: September 2023
  • Duration: 4 years
  • Salary: £19,500 plus £4,918 London Weighting for those individuals who have London as their primary work base
  • Locations: Salford, London, Cardiff, Glasgow
  • Typically leading to: Permanent role with our User experience & Design team
Main Responsibilities

Collaborate with technical, editorial and product teams from across the BBC, to create enjoyable experiences that delight and are consistent across old and new media.

Learn from industry-leading designers, who’ll teach you best practices and help develop your creative and design skills.

You'll study for a Level 6 Digital User Experience Design Degree from a UK University and The Institute of Apprenticeships in Technical Education. You’ll complete specialist modules such as:

  • Design in the digital context
  • UX project lifecycles
  • Human-computer interaction
  • Data and the digital landscape
  • UX professional practice
  • UX in the BBC
  • Interface technology and UX
  • UX psychology and testing
  • Research methods
  • Digital strategy for UX
Are you the right candidate?

You are skilled in art and design with excellent problem solving skills. You are technically minded with an understanding of software engineering. You are positive and able to apply yourself while being a good communicator and enjoy working with people at all levels. Prepared to juggle work and study while working well under pressure. Who we're looking for:

  • You must be 18 or over when the course starts in September 2023
  • You must have 120 UCAS tariff points from either an Extended BTEC or A-Level in art and design, or an L3 advanced apprenticeship in art or technical design. You may have a relevant degree, such as games development
  • Or, if you have qualifications from Scotland, you’ll need at least BBBB including Maths, English, Art, Design or Computer Science – and have passed first time
  • Be legally allowed to work in the UK
  • Have lived in the UK, Ireland or the European Economic Area (EEA), for at least three years before the start of the apprenticeship. Or have either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and lived in the UK, EEA or Gibraltar for at least three years

Don’t worry if you don’t have an extensive CV. You can share examples of your passion for art and design from anywhere. That might be other work experience, your time in education, volunteering - even times you’ve helped your friends and family out with technical issues.
