Urban Designer

The Urban Design studio within Populous is a cross-disciplinary team, focusing on creating experience-led urban spaces. Our design ethos is ensuring the experiences and moments are continuous, and they translate seamlessly from cities to seats. Populous’ Urban Design studio reflects our decades-long expertise on sports, entertainment, and events architecture onto larger scale projects with a transformative vision for urban futures.
Our team is growing, and we are seeking for great team-players who are technically skilled, enthusiastic, and experienced on large-scale architecture and masterplanning. We are looking for candidates who are educated in and/or experienced in the urban design to join the London studio to work on large-scale, dynamic, multi-disciplinary and world-leading masterplanning and urban design projects.
As a member of the Urban Design studio, you’ll be working closely with the architecture, landscape, wayfinding, and events teams within Populous and enjoy a multi-disciplinary, vibrant and interactive work environment on a daily basis.
The Urban Designer that would fit seamlessly into our team has:
- A strong understanding of large-scale master planning projects
- The knowledge and eagerness to formulate the complexities of such multi-disciplinary large-scale work
- Ability to develop visions and narratives to conceptualise and develop design ideas, and generate diagrams, create digital models and prepare presentation materials to clearly communicate these concepts
- Excellent design, graphics and visualisation skills, with strong digital abilities
- Technical ability to prepare, organise, develop and edit relevant project reports, drawings, models and visuals
- Technical ability to develop design options in 3D, collaboration with the wider design teams in a multi-disciplinary design environment
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a high-quality output within a multi-disciplinary environment
- Previous knowledge, interest or research into future cities, crowd dynamics, mobility, sustainability, user experience or emerging digital technologies would be highly commended
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- A professional degree in urban design, architecture or similar/equivalent related field
- 2-6 years of experience in a professional design practice, with at least 2 of which including masterplanning and urban design work in various design phases
- Very strong computer skills including both 3D and 2D and graphic software capabilities
