A unique opportunity to learn Modern Upholstery working with beautiful fabrics and designs within busy workshops. The apprentice will learn all aspects of modern upholstery including sewing, cutting, foaming to frames, helm seat design and Marine sofas. The apprentice will produce high-end products which will travel the world on superyachts.

What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice within our Marine Upholstery department, you will learn all aspects of Modern Upholstery from pattern matching to templating, cutting, foaming and covering of all furniture which goes onto super yachts. The furniture can range from sofas, mattresses, beds, sunbeds and panels, as well as working with luxury soft furnishings. You will learn how to work with leather, suede and other difficult materials as well as how to use cutting tools, saws, staple guns and upholstery tools.

You may also be required to go onto site to fit the products which will involve working on Marinas and luxury yachts. You will work with specialists within their field of work to get the best training and deliver a high-end product.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will undertake Modern Upholstery route of the Furniture Manufacturing apprenticeship and be based in Plympton Plymouth at our large workshops. You will be assigned a mentor and trainer to support you with your training and development. You will attend college one day a week to enhance and develop your skills. You will also be working within our workshops however time will be covered moving around the business and working on site and luxury yachts. At the end of the two-year apprenticeship, you will become a skilled Modern Upholsterer and the opportunity to train and develop others will be an option.
