Job description
Be a part of something amazing
Are you:
Passionate about community engagement and its power to transform museums?
Excited about working across nine world-class collections?
Experienced in collaborative working with a range of audiences?
The eight University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden (UCM) represent the UK's highest concentration of internationally-important collections outside London. With more than five million works of art, artefacts and specimens, the collections have supported nearly three hundred years of investigation into the world around us. Today, they bring together people from across the globe to explore the big questions: from the earliest forms of life to the future of our planet. We work together to deepen understanding of our world, inspire new thinking, and address local and global challenges.
From REPLACEMENT_STRING2026 we're delivering Collections in Action, a major collaborative public programme funded by Arts Council England, which builds on a long-term commitment to community engagement, most recently via a major programme, Power and Memory (2020-23) focused on the legacies of empire and enslavement.
Based within the central UCM Partnerships Team, the Community Participation Coordinator will work across the UCM to facilitate consultation and engagement with communities and partners, building on existing, and developing new relationships with community collaborators. It will support and enable opportunities for dialogue and engagement with our diverse partners and audiences, developing how we engage with community collaborators and amplifying their voices in our collections and public programmes.
We are seeking someone who has practical and demonstrable experience of working collaboratively with a range of audiences, including adults, young people and families, and an ability to communicate well with people of diverse backgrounds. It is also important that the role holder is competent in software packages such as Word and Excel and are able to demonstrate good time management skills.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2026 in the first instance.
In return we offer an encouraging and supportive environment, an attractive pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and many employee benefits such as a shopping discounts scheme.
To help support our staff to thrive both professionally and personally, we have adopted a system of hybrid working, meaning staff are empowered to split their time between in-person collaboration and remote working. The frequency of remote working may vary and will be subject to discussion with your line manager.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check and a security check.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
