Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen due to expansion to join our Underwriting Team and support our amazing team of underwriters in the vibrant office in Wolverhampton.

Purpose:
To provide essential support in all general office duties within the Underwriting team as directed by your Team Leader or Manager. To maintain high standard and quality of service during all activities. To challenge and improve levels of service and support and ensure enquiries and processes are handled efficiently and effectively in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
  • To provide support to the business through ensuring the effective running and processing of servicing functions and enquiries within the Underwriting team.
  • To undertake the processing of renewals in accordance with the agreed procedures in place within the Unit.
  • To ensure that all statutory and company regulations are followed to protect clients, colleagues and the business interests of the company.
  • Adhere to the contents of the Operating Procedure Manual and Business Unit Supplemental Operating Procedure Manual at all times
  • Ensure the Thistles TCF principals are fully understood and applied across all customers
  • Acquire, maintain and record an accurate level of appropriate technical, product and regulatory knowledge and skill in accordance with the job role.
  • Attainment of targets as outlined on performance appraisal and during 121 sessions with manager
  • Perform other duties from time to time, as determined by demands of the business

Key Performance Indicators:
  • To meet and be accountable for achieving business targets in your designated area of responsibility, including attainment of service level agreements:
o Ensure that all New Business, Renewals and Mid Term adjustments are dealt with within laid down procedures.
  • Distribute incoming mail, collect and despatch outgoing mail
  • Answer telephone within 3 rings and deal courteously with all callers, routing them as appropriate or taking messages.
  • Maintain diary system, chasing for required information
  • Maintain secure, efficient and accurate filing system and tie up incoming work with files
  • Identify appropriate training and self-development needs to ensure product and procedure knowledge are up to date.
  • Demonstrate regulatory awareness and understanding in accordance with Training and Competency requirements, working to exceed minimum T&C competency levels.

Relationships:
Internal:
Underwriting teams, across all products and services. Peers, Team Leaders and Managers to develop product knowledge.

External:
Broker Partners and Insurer Partners

Decision Making:
Autonomy to make decisions in line with policy guidelines and Operating procedure manuals, all deviations from this must be referred to a Team Leader or Product Manager.

Qualifications / Experience:
  • Minimum 5 GCSE Grades A to C, including English and Maths
  • Computer Literate
  • Experience of working within a customer service environment

Knowledge:
  • Experience of working within a Regulated FCA environment desirable but not essential

Skills and Competencies:
  • Works collaboratively and as part of a team
  • Works well under pressure and ability to adapt and remain flexible in approach
  • Have an ability to prioritise and multi-task, in particular be able to switch between a range of contact channels such as inbound, outbound calls, emails etc.
  • Focus on customer service, with effective use of verbal and listening skills
