BAT UK IS LOOKING FOR AN UNDERGRADUATE INTERN – DATA SCIENCE – fixed term 12 months

SALARY RANGE: £19,200

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
This internship provides an exciting opportunity for an appropriately qualified data scientist/statistician to use data to find patterns and help solve the problems faced by business in innovative and imaginative ways.

The Data Science team, as part of the Modified Risk Tobacco Product (MRTP) Science team, is responsible for data analysis, management, modelling, and statistics support for the MRTP team (pre-clinical, clinical, HCB) and the wider R&D community.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:
- Development of new data-oriented solutions, machine learning tools and dashboards;
- Support internal and external stakeholders on data analyses;
- Assist in delivering data transformation project to the business;
- Assist in design of experiments to merge, manage, interrogate, and extract data to supply tailored reports to wider organisation;
- Work closely with business to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision making.
CAN THIS BE YOUR FUTURE ROLE?
- Have you ever developed a software solution end to end, like an app or a project?
- Have you had experiences with manipulating dataset without knowing the origin or the full details?
- Have you had experiences using APIs and other online tools?
- Are you familiar with Azure solutions and used them?
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science or Mathematics;
- Experience in Python or R programming;
- Understanding of Mathematics and basic statistics;
- Knowledge of CS basics (e.g.: software development and data processing);
- Software developing Skills, programming languages such as Python or R;
- Machine learning or Statistical skills;
- Data analysis skills (packages like Pandas);
- Visualization skills (Plotly, seaborn, matplotlib, PowerBI);
- Familiarisation with Azure environment;
- Presentation skills.
BENEFICIAL
- Good understanding of statistical methodologies;
- Experience in programming in SAS.
