Position Summary
An interesting and challenging opportunity has arisen in the Taylor Hobson Production Department for a Metrologist working within our Calibration Laboratory. Reporting to the Head of Laboratory your responsibilities will include calibration of a wide range of Taylor Hobson and customer artefacts utilising a variety of Taylor Hobson instruments and software.
To be successful in this role we are currently looking for a person that has a strong attention to detail having worked in a precision environment. The right person needs to have excellent computer skills, is organised, reliable, flexible and can manage their workload whilst being able to work as part of a larger team.
Key Responsibilities
- Process incoming work by logging onto company database prioritising it with regard to instrument availability and customers order requirements.
- Verifying that the accompanying paperwork contains the correct pricing/delivery and technical information required, liaising with customers, and organising technical discussions and quotations as necessary.
- Measure and/or calibrate items against documented instructions and specifications and assist in the establishment of the methodology where one does not exist.
- Evaluate measurement results obtained during the calibration to ensure that the correct measurement criteria have been established.
- Creation of certificates of calibration presenting results accurately, clearly, unambiguously, and objectively to give all the necessary information for the interpretation of results by the client.
- Client liaison with respect to progress of items from receipt to dispatch.
- Ensuring that international traceability is maintained through reference standards held by the laboratory.
- Be responsible for Internal Calibration so that we have full traceability and adhere to ISO9001. Work with the Quality Engineer to manage the process.
- To check samples from new suppliers and complete FAI reports in conjunction with Quality Engineer.
Requirements for Consideration
- HNC and/or relevant experience in a precision engineering environment, including a high level of mechanical skills and aptitude.
- Ideally knowledge / experience of Taylor Hobson instrumentation and software.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite (Excel/Word/Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail and continuous improvement.
- Good communication skills and telephone manner, with excellent customer relation abilities
- An analytical and methodical approach to problem solving.
- Some understanding of the theories and practices of metrology and mechanical measurement.
- An understanding of the company’s laboratory and its relationship with UKAS.
- Good inter-personal and teamwork skills.
