Job Title: UK Battery Controls Manager
Salary: £71,000 - £80,000 (Depending on Experience)
Location : Peterborough - hybrid working patterns available
Benefits: 25 days annual leave,
Up to 20% bonus
Cash Car Allowance - £625pcm
Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10%

The development of a range of Lithium-Ion Battery products is key to our and our customers success and is a key part of this new division.
The Battery Chemitronics team is based across 3 continents - UK, US, and India. We are responsible for the enterprise Battery Management System (BMS) control strategy development, calibration and validation from concept to production. Our BMS software is used across all electrified applications and power ranges.

The Opportunity and Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will manage the UK based Controls team in the planning and delivery of advanced BMS algorithm development, calibration and on-time release. These algorithms support the full range of battery programs across the global enterprise and need to be platform and product agnostic to gain maximum leverage across the product range.
This leader will need to collaborate closely with other Caterpillar teams to ensure that customer focused solutions are complete and aligned. The Controls team are supporting multiple projects at differing stages of product development, from concept through to production.
You will also shape the strategic direction of the group in terms of technology, process and people development, as well as developing budget and investment plans.
You will be expected to:
Manage the BMS control strategy development and delivery from concept to production for the UK team.
Ensure BMS control strategies are platform/product agnostic to gain maximum leverage across the portfolio.
Develop multi-generational plans for controls development and calibration including technology and process.
Manage and plan battery testing requirements to ensure strategies are tested and validated.
Ensure on time delivery of BMS software at appropriate maturity levels to all battery programs.
Grow team competency and process maturity in these fields
Keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies
Communicate tailored technical information to internal and external customers, team members, and suppliers
Develop and maintain a keen understanding of internal and external customers' needs
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Accredited Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in a relevant subject (Engineering, Computer Science etc..)
Deep technical Controls experience demonstrated in industrial applications
Experienced in developing, implementing, and calibrating complex BMS control strategies including:
Requirements, model-based control, Functional Safety, HIL, SIL, FMEA
Good knowledge of model-based control using the MathWorks toolset, ability to coach others in this
Demonstrated experience leading and coaching diverse teams
Have excellent communication skills – be able to interact with senior leaders, customers, suppliers, and drive clarity down through their team and supporting functions to ensure a successful outcome.
Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Experience of Lithium-Ion battery engineering and BMS control algorithms/strategies including the core functions of SoC, SoH and cell balancing is highly beneficial
Supervisory experience of an engineering team including permanent and agency staff.
Experience of NTI (New Technology Introduction) and how this link into NPI (New Product Introduction)
Working within a global team
