UAS Primary Pilot – Based at either Shiremoor, Penshaw, Castleford or Hellaby The post holder will become Northern Powergrid’s UAS Primary Pilot and be responsible for maintaining and adhering to our UAS OperationalAuthorisation and associated Operations Manuals.
Lead the growth of Northern Powergrid’s internal UAS Operations regarding our people/pilots, equipment, and know-how. Ensure Northern Powergrid’s asset resilience regulatory commitments relating to the use of UAS are delivered.
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 pa - plus bonus of up to 15%
Key Responsibilities
- The main tasks and responsibilities of this role are:
- Be the Northern Powergrid Primary Pilot and carry out all tasks associated with the remit of a Primary Pilot as defined by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
- Ensure Northern Powergrid are fully compliant with UK aviation legislation from a person/pilot and equipment perspective while reacting to legislative changes as and when they occur.
- Lead on Northern Powergrid UAS projects which will include, but not limited to, asset assessments, inspections, and surveying.
- Represent Northern Powergrid on Berkshire Hathaway Energy Collaboration Projects and lead on all Northern Powergrid associated UAS Operations
- Identify innovative areas of opportunity for use within NPg for this emerging technology, including looking towards establishing CAA approval for Extended Visual Line of Sight (EVLOS) & Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Operations
- Identify investment opportunities (i.e. in equipment, facilities, people), advise on strategic and tactical plans while delivering on business cases and proposals
- Be the expert in all associated equipment and software relating to Northern Powergrid’s UAS operations
- Build and maintain good relationships with our chosen UAS providers (Hardware/Software & Training)
Key Competencies
- Proven Project management skills, manages situations when workload presents conflicting demands on time availability, prioritising and scheduling tasks effectively
- Strong communication (spoken, written and presentational) and decision-making skills
- Up to date knowledge of UK CAA Drone legislation
- Knowledge of overhead electrical distribution systems, operational practice manual (OPM) and distribution safety rules (DSR), Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations (ESQCR)
- Works co-operatively and flexibly as part of a team
- Strong customer service/people skills
Qualifications and Attributes
Essential Qualifications: - evidence must be provided
HNC/Level 4 qualification in a relevant field
Full UK Driving license
(Full UAS training and certification will be provided)
Essential Experience:
Operational Experience in Unmanned Aircraft Systems
Desirable Qualifications:
Project management
UAS ground school qualification
UAS Certificate of Practical Flight Assessment
Desirable Experience:
Knowledge electrical distribution systems, both overhead and ground mounted equipment
Knowledge of Asset Inspection programmes and associated requirements
Knowledge of Land Surveying and the associated geospatial data
