BBC Wales TV Presentation is responsible for the transmission of three of Wales’ tv channels - BBC One Wales, BBC Two Wales and S4C - from our broadcast centre at Central Square in Cardiff. We are looking for an Announcer/Director to join the team and work across the three channels. You will be one of the voices of BBC One Wales and BBC Two Wales, whilst operating the playout automation and other systems to ensure smooth and accurate transmission.
Main ResponsibilitiesWorking a 365 rota as part of a small team covering transmission from early morning until late night.
Working ‘solo’ in the control room, ensuring all the items in the schedule are broadcast correctly, operating the playout automation and other systems, previewing and checking content, liaising with editorial and technical colleagues ahead of transmission and making changes where necessary to keep the schedule on track.
When on shift on BBC One Wales and BBC Two Wales – writing and delivering live continuity announcements which advertise our programmes and communicate important information about content.
When on shift on S4C – acting as ‘transmission controller’ for the busy Welsh language, mixed-genre channel with daily live programmes and adverts. The announcements are provided by S4C’s Continuity Announcers.

- If you can make considered decisions quickly, balance conflicting priorities and work with engineering and production colleagues to get things back on track when they don’t quite go to plan.
- If you have a pleasant and engaging voice and are comfortable with operating transmission systems whilst talking to time.

You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.
