Job description
The Tandem Truck Operator is primarily responsible for safely and efficiently operating and maintaining the tandem truck. The Tandem Truck Operator is also responsible for promoting and participating in the Goal Zero initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand, promote, participate in, and continuously improve all aspects of the company safety programs & initiatives (including Goal Zero).
- Positively participate in Goal Zero Initiative, including adhering to the Defined Activities as defined for their position.
- Comply with company safety standards and policies.
- Comply with legislated environmental, health, and safety regulations, laws, and codes.
- Be responsible for the safe execution of their own tasks.
- Keep legal logbook and all required records (i.e. Pre-trip inspections).
- Report any problems or hazards directly to the onsite supervisor or superintendent.
- Follow direction of supervisor or superintendent as to daily tasks and expectations.
- Communicate professionally and diplomatically with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and guests at all times.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Must possess a clean and current Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement.
- Minimum of two years’ experience with operating a tandem truck in congested areas from city traffic and pedestrians.
- Good knowledge of the city of Edmonton and designated truck routes.
- Must have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
- Must comply with all applicable legislation and bylaws (AB Transportation, Federal & Municipal).
- Must be able to work independently and as a team in a busy fast-paced environment.
- Able to perform physical/manual labour for extended periods of time.
- Able and willing to work overtime as required.
- Ability to meet and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies, including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.
- Must be willing to join and maintain active membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 955, if not already a member.
Working Conditions:
- Must be physically fit, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively on a regular basis.
- Must be able to work under tight timelines and deadline pressure.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as directed by company policy and OH&S regulations.
