Fowler Welch are a multi award winning supply chain specialist working with retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers, providing temperature controlled warehousing allowing consolidation, storage & transport service for chilled foods. We offer a tailored, fast and frequent logistics service with countrywide coverage.
Our Evesham site are now recruiting for a Transport Operator on a full time, permanent basis.
Working hours: Nights - Wednesday to Saturday, 19:30 - 07:30
Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum, dependent on experience
The purpose of a Transport Operator is to be responsible for resourcing and implementing the delivery plan in conjunction with the wider team. Effectively managing vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions.
Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of drivers’ hours and Health & Safety regulations.
Key Duties of a Transport Operator:
- Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
- Ensuring drivers are debriefed as per the site instructions and POD’s are captured and uploaded
- Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours’ regulations.
- Liaising with planning team to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
- Assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
- Effectively manage the balance between own fleet and sub contract requirements, identifying and suggesting any areas for improvement
- Conducting initial investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Transport Supervisors and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
- Working alongside fleet to ensure timely return of vehicles
- Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner
- Assist Supervisors in speaking to drivers about Virtual Risk Manager and improving driving style
- No Transport experience required as training will be given
- Excellent admin skills/experience
- Sound geographical knowledge
- Basic understanding of driver’s hours regulations/Tachograph law
- Experience of managing own workload within a pressurised environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills that have been used to support a customer focused operation
- Basic fridge operation knowledge – Start / Stop / change temperatures / clear faults (desirable)
