Job description
BID ANNOUNCEMENT
This position is covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with the Teamsters, Local 700. (BARGAINING UNIT 08). Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid on this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Under supervision, transports materials, tools, equipment, and personnel to and from projects.
- Drives sweepers, snowplows/spreaders to clear roadways and spread sand/salt or other products.
- Drives garbage/refuse collection trucks on assigned routes and to disposal sites.
- Inspects vehicles or mechanical equipment for proper operation and checks oil/fluids.
- Reports mechanical repairs to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner.
- Completes paperwork including worksheets, repair orders, activity logs and other forms to document assignments.
- Conducts safety checks to ensure assigned vehicle and equipment are in proper working order.
- Operates tow trucks to transport inoperable vehicles to auto pounds or relocation sites.
- Shuttles equipment to and from facilities for preventive maintenance work.
- Operates a tractor/trailer, stake body truck, tractor, or pick-up truck to deliver services for crowd or traffic control.
- Completes a Vehicle Tow Report and/or Notice of Parking violations.
- Utilizes an electronic hand-held device to record vehicle assists, relocation or tow.
- Hangs/removes temporary stop signs at intersections where traffic signals are malfunctioning.
- Hangs/removes temporary parking restriction signs.
- Places cones for traffic control.
- Cleans up accident debris and/or hazardous material on the public way.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NOTE: Unacceptable CDL restrictions include airbrake restriction (“L” and/or “Z”).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Moderate lifting (up to 35 pounds) is required
- Ability to grasp and manipulate objects
- Sit and stand frequently
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposure to outdoor conditions
- Exposure to loud noise, fumes, and dust
EQUIPMENT
- Communication equipment (i.e., two-way radio)
NOTE: To be considered for this position, you MUST provide a copy of your valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “A” or “B” at the time of processing. Applicants cannot have restrictions on CDL limiting operation of equipment. Unacceptable CDL restrictions include airbrake restriction (“L” and/or “Z”).
