Primary function is driving passenger vehicles, including activity and mini-buses and assisting with day-to-day coordination of scheduling drivers, responding to student/family requests for transportation services, assisting with scheduling of maintenance for fleet vehicles (i.e. buses, vans, etc.)

Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm; Emergency On-Call; Rotating shifts
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
The Office of Student Transportation provides a variety of transportation services for the UNCSA community. The UNCSA community consists of high school and college students, staff, faculty and university administration, guests of campus events and functions. The Student Transportation Coordinator assists the Manager of Student Transportation with administrative day-to-day operations and serving as the primary driver for Student Transportation.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.

Must maintain a current CDL Class B license with passenger and school bus endorsement.

Knowledge – Technical (Operations)
Knowledge and ability to safely and skillfully operates complex, highly specialized vehicles and/or equipment in the performance of recurring tasks with limited variety. Examples of vehicles and/or equipment operated at the Advanced level may include but are not limited to: dredge equipment, hydrocrane, tugboat. Or, safely and skillfully operates specialized vehicles and/or equipment (as noted at the Journey level) in combination with considerable independence and variation in assignments, requiring a good understanding of organizational objectives. Ability to consistently exercise independent judgment and decision-making in performance of daily tasks. Ability to provide technical mentoring and training to others in operation of vehicles and equipment. Ability to contribute to non-routine, program related records and reports based on advanced knowledge of operational work as related to organizational mission.
Safety and Health Compliance
Ability to demonstrate commitment to provide safe working environment by making sure that all employees have appropriate training and equipment. Advanced knowledge of established safety and health policies and procedures and ability to apply them to work activities. Ability to participate in the development and enforcement of regulatory standards. Ability to follow established plan(s) to ensure safety and “prepared response” in the event of an emergency. Ability to oversee and coordinate emergency response efforts.

Ability to negotiate best method/practices for assigned tasks based on advanced knowledge of equipment capability and limitations. Ability to independently resolve disputes with others. Ability to negotiate the movement of vehicles/equipment onto and through private property with landowners.

REQUIRED
- CDL driving experience in a student transportation department for a college and high school students.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to transportation of students (specifically ages 13+)
- Experience in working and networking with vendors the public, guest artist, students, parents, faculty and staff to include UNC General Administration required.
- Knowledge of bus fleet management and maintenance.
- Knowledge and experience in driver supervision.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and UNC transportation procedures including but not limited to familiarity with the mechanical operations of the transportation fleet to ensure safe transportation of passengers.
- Understanding and ability to safely and skillfully operate vehicles in variety types of weather and variety types of roads and property.
- Ability to consistently exercise independent judgment and decision-making in performance
- Ability to demonstrate effective use of listening skills by listening to clients and teammates understanding and responding to apparent and underlying needs while continually seeking to provide the highest quality safest and most efficient services to all.
- Ability to follow established plans to ensure safety and “prepared response” in the event of an emergency.
- Ability to provide technical mentoring and training to drivers in operation of vehicles.
- Ability to deal calmly and professionally with emergency and/or intense situations and/or passengers and handle complaints respectfully.
- Ability to be scheduled for, work, and be on-call days, nights, weekends and Holidays.
- Ability to work independently.
RECOMMENDED
- Experience in North Carolina Public School Bus Transportation policies and procedures.
- Experience with office knowledge and abilities for record keeping of transportation data.
- Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines and mechanical operations.
