The VA Convergence Center (VC2) is our new center that brings together diverse resources, expertise, and technologies to support our staff in the development and introduction of the best and most advanced healthcare for our Veterans. The broader mission is that together, we can build the healthcare system of the future, and have a broad positive impact across the VA and beyond. Our new center incorporates local and national teams that is led by the Deputy Chief of Staff: Innovation, Advanced Analytics, Informatics, and Simulation. Designed to break down barriers and act as a catalyst, VC2 includes expertise in innovation, modernization, advanced analytics, diagnostics, informatics, simulation, external collaborations, as well as cutting-edge technology such as wearables, sensors, haptics, 5G, cloud computing, AR, VR, 3DP, digital twin, and robotics.
The incumbent will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and consulting on a variety of programs to accomplish the results-oriented outcomes.
Independently manages the Set Up and Take Down of various activities in the simulation center and activities that occur in situ (in the real clinical environment). Independently manages mannequin-based and Standardized Patient (SP) simulation exercises.
Provides technical support for a wide variety of highly sophisticated and complex simulation equipment including anatomic models, task trainers, screen-based simulators, full-body computerized patient simulators and virtual reality systems; troubleshoots, diagnoses, and remedies user issues, equipment failure, and network interface problems.
Operates mannequins, AV system and medical equipment during simulations.
Anticipates and/or troubleshoots any issues related to the simulation exercises before, during and after exercises as necessary, and provide documentation of such issues.
Performs preventive maintenance on equipment following manufacturers recommendations; ensures warranties and service contracts are honored. Works with hospital biomedical engineering for troubleshooting or installing medical equipment in the Simulation Center (equipment used in the simulation center is often the same equipment that is used in the hospital.
Orients faculty and simulation instructors to the principles of simulation training and debriefing techniques.
Functions as the expert in healthcare simulation operations including the educational methodologies and the technical operations.
Independently makes recommendations on integration of new equipment and technology.
Conducts end of course and/or study evaluations.
Conducts tours and clinical simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals. Participates in developing, organizing and conducting educational courses or events that use clinical simulation technologies.
Manages the use of simulation resources, demonstrating knowledge and experience with Windows/Mac file sharing applications, as well as the ability to independently plan and organize work, manage priorities, and utilize available resources.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills represented by clinical practice in a healthcare setting.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Salary: $70,674 - $111,157 per year
Pay Scale & Grade: GS-9/11
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
GS-9
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis; experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction; learning modalities and conducting provide hands on training in a healthcare or clinical setting; understanding of assessment evaluation criteria; programs and activities in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the educational/training needs.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of a have a Master's, or equivalent degree or have you successfully completed two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in Education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. You MUST provide a copy of your transcripts or proof with your application package.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): having a percentage of specialized experience as describe in A and a percentage of graduate education in excess of more than one (1) year as described in B when combined, equals at least 100%. Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal Service and would have demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and the methods and techniques of instruction. Specialized experience includes: Examples of qualifying experience includes: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis; delivering simulation based training in a healthcare setting; and assisting learners and faculty in the use of clinical simulation equipment. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Requires successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education must include a major study in education, or a subject area related to the position to be filled. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Requires equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Only education in excess of a master's degree (excess of 36 semester hours) may be used for this requirement.

Additional information
Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending, and lifting of equipment weighing less than 40 pounds. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
