Summary

This position is located in the Office Management Training division with the School of Professional and Area Studies (SPAS) at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI). FSI provides more that 800 courses per year and is the U.S. Government's (USG) premier training institution for the USG foreign affairs community, preparing American diplomats and other professionals to advance U.S. foreign policy interest overseas and in Washington, DC.

Duties

Serves as instructor in Communications Skills training courses

Delivers communications training and integrates communications skills training within other courses to improve overall operational effectiveness of foreign affairs professionals.

Participates in designing and developing courses and modules to incorporate communications skills training in overall curricula. Revises existing courses and modules to ensure training is useful and applicable to the intended audience.

Conducts research and assesses overall effectiveness of communications skills training and programs. Researches and advises on using educational technology and computer-based training in courses and program of the Division.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience working with a wide range of principles, methods, and techniques of adult education in order to teach written and oral communication skills in a classroom.
  • Experience in designing and developing curriculum, assessing student learning, and conducting training evaluations.
  • Experience in teaching participants from a variety of cultures and with varying education backgrounds.

Note: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training / course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; or work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
