About Halesowen College:
Halesowen College primarily serves the communities of Halesowen, Stourbridge, Dudley and Sandwell. Many students are from urban areas including many wards that score highly on the index of deprivation. In addition to providing one of the most comprehensive curriculum offers in the region, the College works hard to remove any barriers that students might encounter. We are the only college in the region to offer a free coach service to all learners with over 2000 students accessing these coach services each week.
The College has:
- Excellent relationships with local schools and recruits’ students from more than 100 others.
- Some 4,300 funded full-time 16-18 learners
- Growing numbers of adults;14-16-year-old elected home-educated students and a small but rapidly increasing number of apprentices.
- Programmes range from Entry Level to Level 4. Adult provision is primarily concentrated on GCSE English, Maths and Access to Higher Education programmes supported by some specific vocational expertise on areas such as Counselling.
- There is a growing number of students who receive learning support assistance, and most have access arrangements for their exams or assessment.
- University Centre Halesowen partly funded by the University of Worcester, as well as other extensive partnerships that compliments the College’s higher level vocational pathways for students who are unlikely to access traditional university education.
- Strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the West Midlands Combined Authority, Local Enterprise Partnership, schools, multi-academy trusts, employers and the local community.
Roles Available:
We are very excited to be recruiting for x5 New Graduates to join us in August on our Trainee Teacher programme. You will be funded to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET course) whilst gaining hands on teaching experience. A qualification in teaching will provide a practical introduction and a gradual build-up of your skills and knowledge. Alongside this will be a range of job shadowing and where appropriate, industrial updating to further your knowledge in this specialist area. You will be given day release to support you in your studies for your DET course.
Throughout your trainee programme you will be managed by a mentor who will put together an individualised training plan to meet the needs of a changing curriculum and shape your development. The programme will include; delivery of a lesson in your subject specialism, functional skills, personal coaching and developing the use of creative IT in the classroom. Initially, trainees will undertake observations of experienced teachers and then progress to a small teaching load which will increase as you become more experienced. There would also be an expectation that trainees deliver some Functional Skills or Personal Skills Development.
By the end of the two years, you should have successfully completed your teaching qualification and be a competent teacher with a full teaching timetable. Therefore, if your performance as a teacher is good then you will have the opportunity to be able to transfer onto a teaching contract.

- Business – Graduates withDegrees in: Marketing, HR, Enterprise, Finance / Accounting, Law, business Management degrees
- Health & Social care – Graduates with Degrees in – Social Work, Clinical, Health related degrees
- Social Science – Graduates with Degrees inPsychology, Sociology, Criminology, Health & social Care,
- Sports & Public Services Graduates with Degrees in -Anatomy, Sporting degrees, Criminology
