We are now looking for a Trainee Buildings Surveyor to join our estimating team at our Ibstock Telling operations, which is a key part of our newly developed Futures Division at Ibstock PLC. Ibstock Telling creates industry leading GRC products, where we expertly design, develop and engineer modern methods of construction for mid and high-rise buildings in the residential and commercial sectors including energy efficient facade technologies, large format panel systems and bespoke facade total solutions. We are looking to grow from the current turnover levels of £5m up to £30m in the next 5 years, with an aspirational drive to improve productivity and extent of industrialisation
We are looking for someone who is looking who is keen to learn and develop, thrives in a fast moving environment and wants to learn the ropes with hands on experience in a technically and design led organisation. You will be part of the team that builds beautiful bespoke mid to high rise buildings, creating project proposals for bespoke patterned and brick faced GRC projects.
Reporting to the Estimation and Contracts Director, you will get a mix of experience from detailed technical specifications, estimation techniques as well as detailed transactional experience that will be a fantastic backbone for development
The business is going through a transitional change at the moment, in multiple aspects, including operational and technical development, organisation development as well as cultural development. This role will be core to helping us succeed on the journey.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assisting with preparing cost plans
- Supporting in the collation of tender documents
- Working with the Bills of Quantities team
- Learn how to use measurement techniques for Quantity surveying
- Assist in collating contract documents
- Pre and post contract duties on a variety of commercial projects
- Learning to prepare interim valuations, contract instructions and final accounts
- Assisting in monthly financial reporting
- Understanding the role of employer’s agent and contract administrator within our projects.
- Learn value management and assist in value engineering exercises (moved from PM)
- Working on projects from development to completion
- Training will be provided and guidance on existing processes and software will be given.
- Work with design team to ensure alignment of approach and delivery of project to time and budget
- Customer invoicing and work in progress valuation
- Liaise with customers, staff and contractors.
- Update project records.
- Assist with project contract administration.
- Contribute towards business case reviews of new projects.
- Keep abreast of current best practice and relevant industry innovation.
We aspire to operate to world class standards and therefore a fully comprehensive training plan will be implemented to address any necessary skills development to ensure you are as effective as possible in this role. This will include providing you training for a BTEC building surveyors qualification or similar.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- 3 x A Levels with an average B grade pass (C minimum).
- Applicants should also have five GCSEs grade C or above or grade 5 to 9 (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.
- An interest in construction & the built environment.
- Have a good head for numbers & enjoy working at a high pace.
- Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Enjoys a challenge & has good problem-solving skills.
- Organised & the ability to multi-task.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to build long-term relationships
- A team player, outgoing, flexible, enthusiastic and ambitious
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
- Previous experience in working in the facades industry / GRC industry a plus but not essential
