Job purpose
Due to significant contract wins and the expansion of our core team, we have a number of vacancies for Trainee Structures Examiners to work across the UK with our current team. This vital role involves examination and inspection of railway assets including bridges, viaducts and retaining walls, ensuring that they are safe and in good condition for Network Rail’s passengers and freight.
We offer a competitive starting salary with extensive overtime opportunities. Salaries are banded, so as successful candidates become competent in specific aspects of their jobs, their earning potential directly increases.
You’re working location will either be home based or from our Nottingham HQ, with travel across the region to specific sites. We plan to create 10 additional roles within the team, and we are specifically looking for people in the following geographical areas:
- Nottingham and the East Midlands
- South Yorkshire or Sheffield
Full training and mentoring will be provided and will include as standard:
- Railway safety critical training to COSS/SWL1 level
- STE4 Structures Examination Technical Qualification
- Confined space, PASMA and IPAF (cherry picker) operator training
In addition, there is also the opportunity to undertake IRATA Level 1 rope access training. Bridgeway are an NSAR Gold Award Training provider.
Duties
- Carry out Structural examinations in accordance with company and industry standards
- Clear communication and production of reports
- Inform the Project management team of the status of each examination upon completion
- To work in a professional and safe manner, especially in a live working railway environment
Essential skills & requirements
- A proactive and safety conscious approach to work
- An eagerness to work within challenging environments, including confined spaces and working at height
- IT literacy and the ability to write technical reports (ideally with technical drawing skills)
- A good level of fitness and flexibility to work uns
Essential qualifications
- A full, clean driving licence
Desirable (but not essential)
- Previous rail or Civil Engineering knowledge or experience
