Key relationships
We’re looking to expand our legal team and provide the opportunity to a future commercial lawyer to train in an exciting in-house environment. The Trainee Solicitor will provide legal support and advice to the business, from senior business leaders through to junior sales and administration. You will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and European Finance Manager amongst others, with supervision from the Group Head of Legal and a full training programme.

The role
The Trainee Solicitor will help to provide day to day commercial legal, administrative and organisational support in a Legal, Data Protection and Company Secretarial capacity. Some examples of this are set out below.

Responsibilities include:
Commercial legal advice – negotiating contracts and NDAs, responding to internal legal queries and customer negotiations. Dealing with insolvency issues, insurance, and billing queries.

Disputes – includes debt claims management with our credit control and sales admin teams, small claims litigation, engaging with external debt collection agencies and legal advisers. Manage cases from start to finish, including official filings, drafting letters and other documents, obtaining any relevant information required and attending court proceedings where necessary. Manage the independent arbitration facility that we require under Ofcom guidelines.

Corporate/M&A – assist in the post-acquisition onboarding for M&A deals by the company and coordinate with external resource to obtain Bibles, DD and other information required to be kept by the Legal team.

General Compliance/Legal Research – Keeping up to date with relevant Telecoms, Internet of Things (including Ofcom consultations) and other regulatory requirements and providing information on compliance to customers to help ensure we meet customer requirements.

Intellectual property and copyright – help maintain trademark portfolio and deal with other intellectual property issues.

Data Protection – assist the Group Data Protection Officer with data impact assessments, data incident reports, customer queries and general compliance with Data Protection Laws.

Company Secretarial work – help maintain company secretarial files and registrations across the global range of companies.

Skills required:
The Trainee Solicitor must have completed the LPC or equivalent qualifications for training in England and Wales and meet the character and suitability requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
  • Ideally some background in commercial contract law and experience of working with commercial disputes and claims and knowledge of the associated legal processes, procedures, and requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks or caseloads
  • Good attention to detail to be able to carefully analyse files and data
  • Legal research skills and the desire to develop an understanding of the law
  • A self-starter, motivated to take on new challenges and be capable of working to deadlines
  • Office administrative skills for tasks such as filing, typing and letter writing
  • Good teamwork skills particularly when working with other departments to complete tasks
  • Flexibility and adaptability in their attitude and approach to work
  • Business acumen and an understanding of the business needs
  • Professionalism when working with colleagues, senior partners (including at external law firms), experts and customers.
