Job Description
Opinion Research Services (ORS) is a well-established independent company that undertakes social and market research for the public sector across the UK. ORS offers attractive employment conditions with a permanent team of around fifty colleagues based in a modern office complex in central Swansea, on the threshold of the beautiful Gower Peninsula.
The Needs Assessment team works on a wide range of interesting, varied and rewarding projects related to accommodation and housing. The work is primarily commissioned by local and national government, and studies include evidence-based assessments and evaluations to inform policy development. The team also provides advice to clients and represents its work in legal appeals and public examinations.
We are expanding our team and would welcome applications for a trainee position from graduates and postgraduates with a degree in a social science or other relevant discipline. Individuals with relevant vocational experience are also encouraged to apply where they have the appropriate skills, including strong communication, formal writing, organisational, and numerical skills.
We are looking for colleagues able to work on multiple projects and methodologies, initially focusing on work related to the gypsy and traveller community, who can make an immediate contribution in providing individual support on small projects and also working as part of a wider team on larger projects. Whilst on-going training and support will be provided from across the wider team, we would expect the successful candidate to demonstrate:
- General awareness of a range of social research and statistical methods;
- Excellent communication, writing and organisational skills;
- Working with data, with a strong attention to detail;
- Preparing appropriate tables and charts, and describing statistics using plain English;
- Self-motivation with a flexible and adaptable approach, being able to work to deadlines;
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Interested? Then tell us about your experience and your qualifications – what research analysis or assignments have you worked on, what did you personally contribute to the work, what were the most important things you learned, and what skills would you bring to our team?
If you would like an informal discussion about the role, please send your contact details through indeed and we will get in touch. To apply please send a CV with a covering letter.
