Job description
Please note: if you hold a Public Health qualification at Level 6 or Level 7 (Degree or Masters) unfortunately you would not be able to apply for this apprenticeship.
Are you interested kickstarting your career? Are you seeking an opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives by supporting and promoting positive change to improve wellbeing and independence?
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is partnering with the University of Sunderland to offer an amazing opportunity to gain a degree apprenticeship qualification in Public Health whilst working and earning at the same time.
To apply for this full funded degree apprenticeship, you will need to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:
- A minimum of 112 UCAS points or equivalent.
- English AND Maths Level 2 qualification – e.g. GCSE Grade C/4 or above, or function skills equivalent.
- Relevant and recent experience working in a health or social care setting
- Excellent Communication Skills
- A commitment to your own personal development
What is the Job?
As a Trainee Public Health Practitioner, you will gain valuable work experience supporting our residents to live and work in safe healthy environments. Working alongside experienced colleagues in the Public Health Team based in the centre of Stockton-on-Tees, you will learn to support the development, strategic planning, commissioning and evaluation of health and wellbeing interventions and programmes in line with local and national public health priorities, the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and to support the delivery of the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
We are seeking someone who has a passion for improving the health of the population of Stockton-on-Tees and will be committed to contributing to addressing health inequalities through partnership working and collaboration with a range of organisations from the NHS to the Voluntary and Community Sector.
We take pride in being a great place to work, where staff are valued, trusted and supported to make a positive contribution at work. We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference, to serve the people of our borough, and who is committed to their own development.
What will I be studying?
You will be given appropriate paid time off work, to attend training at the University of Sunderland and work towards completion of the Public Health Practitioner (integrated degree) apprenticeship qualification.
As this is an apprenticeship opportunity, your course fees will be fully funded and so you will accrue no University fees or student debt and will also be earning throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
ABOUT OUR OFFER
In addition to funding your qualification, we offer a competitive apprenticeship salary, generous annual leave, local government pension and access to a number of other benefits like discounts at high street and online retailers, and health & wellbeing support including access to mental wellbeing services and physiotherapy services.
And that’s not all – We also offer a degree of flexible working with the opportunity of working from home when appropriate in line with the Council’s Flexible Working Policy, subject to operational needs.
