As part of the National Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (IAPT) we are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals, to join our team as a trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (tPWP). The successful candidate will be joining a well-established Primary Care based IAPT Service and will contribute to a stepped care model of service delivery for people experiencing anxiety disorders and depression. The Isle Talk IAPT service has a reputation for innovation and excellence and is committed to improving access to psychological therapies.

As part of the role you will attend the Post Graduate Certificate in PWP practice at the University of Southampton 1-2 days per week for a year. Alongside the training you will practice assessment and delivery of low intensity NICE recommended interventions under clinical and line management supervision.Employment beyond this period is conditional on passing the course and becoming registered as a qualified PWP with the BABCP or BPS.

This exciting opportunity will enable you to make a real difference to the lives of local people. You will be based centrally in our main office and provide clinics across a number of community settings, so a driving license and ability to travel is essential.

An average week during the training year may look like:

  • Attendance of team meetings and forums
Offer 3-4 days of patient facing work either through face to face, telephone, online or group treatment modalities
  • Attended caseload management, clinical skills and line management supervision
  • Completing administrative tasks including session write up, onward referral, signposting, risk management and safeguarding reporting
Person specification:
Essential

Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, or within a NICE evidenced psychological therapy.

or

Educated to degree, level 5 diploma or equivalent in a relevant field such as Psychology, Nursing, social work or Occupational Therapy

and

Evidence of working with people who have suffered with mental health problems for more than 2 years

Desirable
  • Able to work towards and successfully complete the job specific PWP University Course including all the academic components of this
  • Experience of working with people with mental health or wellbeing problems
  • Understanding of the IAPT model and how anxiety and depression based disorders may present in a primary care setting
  • Effectiveness as a team player, with a positive and solution focused attitude who is flexible and willing to learn in order to thrive in the role
  • Engagement with supervision effectively to support wellbeing and performance, responding positively when provided with constructive feedback
  • Promotion of diversity, inclusion and respect in all aspects of the role, recognising the value of each individuals life circumstances and journey
