My client is a well regarded, long established law firm operating in the Intellectual Property space with a number of offices in the UK & Europe. The companies main site is in the city of London, but this role is based primarily in their Cambridge Office. Travel is required to the London office one day per week for the first 8 weeks of joining, which will be reimbursed by the firm.

They are on the hunt for a Trainee Patent Secretary to train under the supervision of their experienced secretarial trainer, furthering their career by working alongside talented individuals of all levels. The successful candidate will be trained in all aspects of a patent secretarial role. This will include; producing documents, filling out patent forms. Filing and document handling, using the firms Document Management System and general secretarial duties.
The Role:
The tasks you will be expected to cover once trained include;
- Produce standard letters, European Patent Office and UK Patent Office forms (in accordance with the firm’s style) relatively unsupervised.
- Progressively dealing with Fee Earners, producing invoice requests and narratives with limited instruction.
- Proficiency in Word, PDF Docs, Outlook packages and Inprotech.
- Ability to produce work from dictations, emails and also from manuscript documents.
- Dealing with post and filing using the firm’s Document Management System.
Requirements:
- Experience working in a professional services firm preferred
- Good education with grades B/6 or higher
- Recognised secretarial qualification (preferred)
- Skilled in Microsoft Office package and Outlook
- Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm
- Strong organisation and interpersonal skills
- Respecting and supporting others within the team/firm to achieve common goals
- Ability to produce work to the standards required, with accuracy and attention to detail
- Responsible, focussed and committed attitude to work
- Ability to work under a small amount of pressure and meet deadlines
