JOB SUMMARY
This is a new role and will be pivotal in supporting the department to cover annual leave and other absences, both planned and unplanned. You will be employed on an annualised hours contract with a guaranteed 12 paid hours a week – where practicable you will be given advanced notice to provide the necessary cover.
Training to become an oxygen operator will be conducted and overseen by the Oxygen Manager and Senior Oxygen Operator during your working hours. The pace will be set at a level that suits your learning, enabling you to gain confidence and competency, to initially achieve a Class 2 and then Class 1 qualification. This is a role that holds some responsibility but there will always be an experienced Class 1 Operator present to oversee all the chamber sessions.
The ability to observe, listen and communicate respectfully with clients is an integral part of your role that can be realised as your confidence and experience grows.
Once fully trained to Class 1 competency the Chamber Operator is responsible for the safe delivery of oxygen therapy for service users according to the MSNTC Training Manual, Code of Construction and Working Practices.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To assist service users who need help with getting in and out of the Oxygen Chamber. (Manual Handling Training is provided as part of the role).
2. Help to ensure that the equipment is checked and safe to be used.
3. Ensure equipment are properly cleaned and maintained.
4. Assist with set up and closure of the generator and chambers.
5. Answer telephone and email queries, take messages and deal with queries appropriately.
6. To perform general administrative duties within the department.
7. To maintain confidentiality of client information between other clients and outside of the centre.
8. To participate in staff meetings and in staff training and development activities.
9. To undertake training as required to achieve and maintain an acceptable level of competence in all aspects of the job.
10. To contribute to the efficient running of the Centre and the creation of an atmosphere conducive to the best care for service users.
11. To understand and comply with the Charity’s Policies and Procedures.
During and Following Training
12. To keep and have a good knowledge of the Training and Reference Manual, Code of Construction and Working Practice.
13. Assist in keeping keep records of faults and incidents involving oxygen therapy system or sessions.
14. To manage the recording of information including monitoring and evaluating of sessions carried out and the individuals concerned.
15. To ensure you are fully informed of all current legislation and safe operating procedures for the chamber and the department and in liaison with the Senior Oxygen Operator and/or Oxygen Department Manager.
16. Support new volunteers in carrying out their role as Chamber Operators.
