An exciting secondment/temporary contract opportunity to train as a Nursing Associate has arisen within your organisation.
Are you a Band 2 or Band 3 Nursing Assistant / Clinical Support Worker looking for a challenge and an opportunity to develop and progress your career within healthcare?
Successful internal candidates employed in a Band 3 healthcare role will be seconded/temporary contract to complete the apprenticeship.
Main duties of the job
The Nursing Associate role will bridge the gap between a support worker and a graduate Registered Nurse, providing a workforce for future healthcare.
The training is a minimum of 2 years and is a generic programme leading to a Foundation Degree Apprenticeship as a Nursing Associate. The University costs for the programme are fully funded. It is a training programme that combines both academic and work-based learning in the physical, psychological and public health aspects of care from pre-conception to end of life.
The programme is structured around a number of clinical placements which will include:
- Adult, Mental Health, Child and Learning Disability
- At home, close to home and within the hospital
During the programme the Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) will be employed at a Band 3.
Trust induction: W/c 11th September 2023. University induction: W/c 18th September 2023. You must be available from 11th September - 8th October 2023 inclusively for TNA induction.
The TNA will have a hub placements within their care organisation but may need to spoke across care organisations within the Alliance and externally to met the programme requirements. The academic aspect of the programme will be delivered by The University of Salford. TNAs will work clinically for 30 hours and attend University for 7.5 hours per week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The trainee will:
- Support individuals with all aspects of care including daily living, providing person-centred care and promoting health and independence through awareness raising and care navigation to other professionals as appropriate
- Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse
- Undertake clinical tasks including cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs
- Accurately record nutritional and fluid intake
- Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times
- Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate
- Report back and share information with the registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of individuals
- Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers
- Assist in the delivery of complex care[1] as prescribed by the registered nurse
- Develop understanding of caring for individuals with particular conditions for example dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities
- Develop skills in relation to coaching/teaching individuals/carers/other staff
- Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical standards and outcomes
- Develop a working knowledge of other providers’ resources and referral systems to ensure individual’s needs are met, within parameters of practice
- Engage in reflective practice including management of self and reflection on own reactions, asking questions and reflecting on answers given
- Demonstrate good understanding of principles of consent and ensure valid consent is obtained prior to undertaking nursing and care procedures
- Demonstrate good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act / Deprivation of Liberties and applies principles to everyday practice seeking advice / guidance from the Registered Nurse or registered care professional as required
Nursing Associates can deliver complex care, defined as patients with complex care needs with a combination of multiple chronic conditions, mental health issues, medication-related problems, and social vulnerability if a specific protocol has been written for that group of employees

Education Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSEs Grade A-C/ 4 or above in Maths & English Language / functional skills level 2 in English (if qualifications obtained outside the UK need NARIC statement of comparability)
- GCSEs Grade A-C/ 4 or above in Maths /functional skills level 2 in Maths (if qualifications obtained outside the UK need NARIC statement of comparability)
Training/Knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Has Care certificate only
- NVQ Level 2 in Care/ Health & Social Care / Apprenticeship in care related area
- Qualifications at Level 3 in Care/ Apprenticeship in care related area or equivalent / higher qualifications, e.g. Degree/Diploma
- Evidence of recent work based or self-directed study
- Completion of other relevant HCA programme
- Has IT qualification

- Evidence of involvement in supporting less experienced staff
- Demonstrates caring behaviours (caring, compassionate, respectful, courteous
- Demonstrates ability to deal with non-routine/unpredictable nature of workload
- Demonstrates ability to communicate within a team and with the public
