Job information

Post No. POSN003114 - Trainee Legal Support Officer

Fixed term for 2 Years

Newport City Council Legal Services has an excellent opportunity for a motivated and organised legal support officer within its busy and friendly social care legal team. The postholder will be expected to study for the CILEX Professional Qualification Foundation Stage with a view to becoming a CILEX Paralegal.

Positive and committed to providing a high quality service, you will be able to show initiative and attention to detail as you provide clerical support to the lawyers within the team. This will initially comprise general administrative work including the preparation of court bundles and legal documents, with the expectation that you will progress to more complex tasks as you gain experience and skills.

Local government legal work is varied and whilst at times it can be challenging, it is also frequently rewarding. There will be times when you need to work under pressure and balance conflicting priorities, however, you will be supported in doing this. You will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to your own development and a willingness to undertake training and develop new skills as required.

Previous experience in local government is not necessarily essential as full training will be provided. What is important is that you are able to show that you have the skills and attributes set out in the Person Specification and a genuine enthusiasm for the role.

If you think you’ve got what we’re looking for and are keen to develop your career at a progressive, forward-thinking Council which places its staff at the heart of what it does, we’d like to hear from you.

We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Newport City Council is committed to working towards its workforce being more representative of the population that we serve and particularly welcomes applications from people from the minority ethnic communities represented (or living) in the city. Selection will be made on ability and skills to undertake the role.
