About You

Are you an experienced mental health professional or social care worker with a recognised professional qualification working in a mental health setting? Have you considered training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)? If so, you may wish to consider training as a High Intensity Therapist.

If you feel you meet the following criteria then we would like to hear from you:

  • A registered core profession as recognised by the BABCP (see BABCP website) or
  • If you are PWP you need to have been qualified for at least 2 years (received certification and successful completion of the PWP training course)
  • Applicants without a recognised and accredited core mental health professional training (such as Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners or Psychotherapists and Counsellors without UKCP or BACP accreditation) can apply but must be able to meet the required KSA process.
  • Significant experience of working with people with mental health problems in a healthcare setting and experience of delivery of short term focused interventions
  • The ability to complete a one year academic training course

As a trainee you will be part of an experienced team who will provide support including supervision and line management. You will be based at:

These High Intensity trainee positions include undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in High Intensity CBT at The University of East Anglia, alongside clinical work within one of our teams.

Successful applicants will follow a 12 month pathway which combines University based study, self-directed learning, and in-service clinical work, qualifying as a HIT at the end. The demands are high and the learning is challenging, however at the end of the year you will have a very valuable set of skills and a qualification

We are hoping to recruit a diversecohort from a wide range of backgrounds and different experiences, including professional or personal experience in the area of mental health. Core professionals are welcome and encouraged to apply.

If you are currently a PWP, you will need to show that you have two years post qualification experience by the time the course starts .

A condition of this role is acceptance and continuation of the relevant study programme with the University. Successful applicants will be able to start with the service prior to commencing the University course.

HPFT provides IAPT services across 5 teams in Hertfordshire and North Essex supporting around 40,000 adults every year to manage their common mental health difficulties, such as anxiety and depression.

Our service has over 300 staff including PWPs, High Intensity Therapists, Psychologists, Mental Health Support Workers, Managers and Administrators.

We pride ourselves on the support we offer to staff and provide an extensive programme of CPD for all our clinicians, with an annual Showcasing Conference to celebrate best practice.

As a High Intensity trainee you will be seeing patients who are considered appropriate for Step 3 services. Your therapy sessions will be supported by individual clinical supervision, clinical skills groups and line management, as well as support from the university.

Long term depression

OCD

PTSD

Health anxiety

GAD

You will keep detailed notes on the system, and ensure that all information is up to date, and meets the required standards for the service.

Once you have completed the course there is an ongoing programme of CPD and development opportunities for career development. The teams are highly supportive, energetic and committed to helping you achieve excellent learning outcomes to provide an excellent service to our patients. We have an excellent track record of ensuring successful course completion.

Our services are focused on delivering high quality therapy, and are one of the highest performers in the East of England, with high recovery rates exceeding the national target of 50% and high levels of patient satisfaction.

All of our teams have accreditation status with the Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies Services (APPTS) demonstrating high standards of practice as acknowledged by the British Psychological Society & the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

We deliver a wide range of digital based interventions including traditional telephone therapy, online guided self-help packages, and therapy via videoconferencing software for individuals and groups.

We also deliver a range of interventions to support people who are also living with a long-term condition in conjunction with a range of physical health providers.
