Job description

Job Purpose

To manufacture fibre optic assemblies following our standard operating procedures or specified drawings, to the highest quality. To assist with stock levels, cleaning and other duties that arise within the production area. Full training will be provided.

Hours of Work

09.00 to 17.30 Monday to Friday with 15 minute morning break and 30 minutes for lunch (40 hour week)

Starting Salary

£21,000 to £25,000 per annum based on experience and ability.

Role and Responsibilities

The candidates will primarily focus on fibre optic manufacturing but may work within other areas of the business to complete other tasks. Focusing on the many processes in place to manufacture our specialised products to the highest of standards.

The ideal candidate enjoys working as part of a team, takes pride in detailed-oriented work, able to handle production time pressures, and enjoys “hands-on" work.

You will learn the following specialised skills in order to become a Fibre Optic Technician. If you are invited for an interview, the below skills will be explained more in-depth.

  • Planning and organising your orders
  • Preparation and Backending Fibre Optic cables
  • Terminating and Assembly of Fibre Optic Connectors
  • Polishing - Using a specialised Fibre Optical polishing machine
  • Inspecting - Using a microscope
  • Testing
  • Stock control

Knowledge

  • GCSE or above in Mathematics.
  • GCSE or above in English.

Experience

Manufacturing experience: Desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.

  • Ability to follow written instructions and drawings
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to respond to instructions given as part of the manufacturing process
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow team members.
