Job description
We¿re Avanti West Coast and we¿re busy making rail the greener, cleaner, and comfier way to go. A joint venture between First Group and Trenitalia, we¿re going all out to transform train travel on the West Coast Main Line.
For starters, we¿re refurbing our entire Pendolino fleet. It¿s a bit more than a face lift. In fact, we¿re spending £117 million to rebuild each train, using sustainable materials wherever possible. With tables made from recycled plastic bottles, free WiFi, recycling, water points and more, everything onboard feels as good as new. And with 25,000 brand new ergonomic seats across the fleet, we¿re looking forward to whooshing more people to their destinations in industry-leading comfort.
On top of this we¿re investing £350 million in new Hitachi trains to replace our Voyager fleet, cutting carbon emissions by a whopping 61% in the process. Quieter, roomier and altogether nicer, our new 23-strong fleet starts running later this year. Great stuff onboard includes more reliable Wi-Fi, wireless charging for electric devices and a real-time customer information system.

You need:
¿ English and Maths GCSEs (Grade A*- C or equivalent)
¿ Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT skills
¿ The right to work in the UK (without restrictions)

You are
¿ Able to commit to completing the Level 3 Train Driver Apprenticeship programme
¿ Able to work shifts including weekends and nights
¿ Able to make your own way into the depot at all times, including when public transport is not available
¿ Able to provide an excellent service for our customers
¿ Able to follow safety critical instructions
¿ Able to comply with the company's Drugs and Alcohol Policy, Rules and Procedures
¿ Happy to wear your uniform with pride and to Avanti West Coast Standards
You can
- Pass the Trainee Driver psychometric test process
- Pass the driver standard medical examination, including Ishihara colour blindness test
- Take on both academic and practical training at the required level, as well as applying what you've learned and being able to pass the relevant assessments
- Be punctual at all times
- Listen to instructions and follow them
- Communicate effectively and assist, colleagues and customers in the interests of safety and/or customer service
- Learn new information and apply it in practice
- Work alone and concentrate for long periods of time
- Show previous experience of establishing relationships with customers
