Ramsbury Brewing and Distilling was first established in 2004 with the creation of the brewery followed in 2014 with the distillery. The brewery and Distillery are a true field to glass craft producer utilising the premium Barley and Wheat grown on the Ramsbury estate. Environmental sensitivity as well as care and attention to detail are central to our ethos and key to the creation of our premium spirits and beers.

The company has seen growth through on-line sales, wholesale relationships and distribution partnerships and is seeking a Trainee Distiller to support our Distillation team as we move our business forward. We are truly a field to Glass Distiller and we are quite unique in growing our wheat and Barley on site which we use for Mashing, fermentation and then Distilling of our Spirit. Currently we make Premium Gin and Vodka as well as some Sloe Gin and Apple Vodka but our range is due to expand and you can be part of this exciting expansion. We are B corp pending and set the bench mark for environmental sustainability and circular supply chains.

A bit about you

We are looking for a person who can integrate well into a small team and is a strong voice for Quality, Consistency and Safety with an eye for detail and a thirst for knowledge and growth.

The successful candidate is likely to have a science-based qualifications to a minimum of A-level or equivalent. A positive attitude is essential and you must be proactive in your approach to the role and the Distillery process. Prior brewing and distilling experience is advantageous but not necessary.

The role

You will receive a detailed induction to the site and extensive training on all the processes and the background theory and technology employed. As the business grows there will be no limits on progress and we welcome and encourage ideas, or entrepreneurial creativity that may help the distillery to grow.

This Role is a great opportunity to learn to distil from raw materials and become a valued part of the Operations team within an award-winning Distillery and Brewery that truly has environmental sustainability, education and Customer service at its core.

Distilling & Bottling

  • Reading hydrometers
  • Pumping flammable liquids (remaining conscious of safety at all times)
  • Learning to Mash, ferment and strip alcohol
  • Rectification of base spirit to create Neutral Grain Spirit
  • Gin Distillation
  • Reduction of spirit
  • HMRC documentation and the the rules and regulations around Duty Suspended alcohol
  • Help develop best practice methods to enhance the production process
  • Measuring pH
  • Calculating the amount of alcohol in a tank
  • Bottling products
  • Bottling documentation
  • Quality assurance
  • Flamable atmospheres and site safety

Warehousing / Goods-In

  • Confirming quality of all goods in and adherence to raw materials stock control
  • Internal duty suspended movements such as barrel filling and storage
  • Fork lift use (training will be given), such as loading trucks and stacking IBC's

Support for the Brewery if required and assisting on distillery tours

It is expected that the Trainee Distiller will take on responsibility for distilling when they have demonstrated competency and Quality awareness for the process they are running.

This is a full time, permanent job with a working pattern that reflects the business we are in and Flexibility is most definitely the key word. You will be available to work the occasional weekend normally a Saturday morning if required and there may be some long days. But during the times when there is less demand or we can cover the process we are open to a variable work pattern that works for the business and the individual. We have exciting plans for our Brand and this is a brilliant opportunity to help shape the future.

We are offering a salary of between £22’000 and £26’000 depending on experience and the expectation is a nominal 40 hour week with Pension and 28 days holiday.
