Job Title: Child & Family Support Worker

Location: Essex

Salary: £19,835 to £20,827 pa plus additional payments for on-call duties

Report to: Child and Family Manager

Responsible for: May oversee work of Volunteers

Main Purpose:

You will work as part of a team in with qualified practitioners delivering specialist high quality, effective support to women, men and their children living in Safer Places accommodation or other accommodation in the community. The primary focus will be the safety and needs of the children and young people. You will also receive the training to enable you to gain the expertise and skills required to have a career in this field

Key Responsibilities:

Main Tasks

1. To accept referrals allocated by the service manager or senior DAP and commence an initial need and risk assessment with the child/ren (where age appropriate) to manage and address risks, needs and immediate safety

2. Managing own case load, planning and delivery of support to clients child/ren (where age appropriate).

3. To provide support with allocated DAP to clients and their children living within our own accommodation and/or in the community in line with a structured plan that is driven by the risks posed to the client/child and the needs and preferences of the individual client. This will be regularly reviewed with the client/child and line manager.

4. To ensure that all safeguarding measures are delivered in respect of the client and their children. Safer Places policies and procedures in respect of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children are strictly adhered to at all times.

5. Ensure support for children is prioritised and to work as part of a multi-agency team where there are issues of safeguarding / child protection / other additional factors.

6. Plan, deliver and evaluate activities for the parent and child/ren in conjunction with the Safer Places service model and strategy for the delivery of services to children.

7. Liaising with all local children’s services. Supporting and encouraging mothers and children to access appropriate community provision (including schools and children’s centres).

8. Provide therapeutic parenting and family support through 1-2-1 work and parenting groups and family groups.

9. Work collaboratively with the DAPS and IDVAs and Programmes Team to ensure family outcomes are delivered.

10. Ensure a safe environment for children and families for any activities undertaken.

11. Ensure that all monitoring data is completed on time and that KPI’s are met.

12. To maintain confidential records, provide detailed handover reports to colleagues, appropriate referral information when working in partnership with other agencies. Ensure that consistent and accurate monitoring systems are maintained.

13. To act in a professional manner at all times, communicating effectively with colleagues and partners. Building and sustaining effective and appropriate relationships at all times with clients, colleagues and partners.

14. To work flexibly within the shift pattern allocated by your line manager

General

1. The role holder will be expected to perform any other duties that may reasonably be asked of them.

2. To participate fully in “on call” as required in the delivery of contingency plans outside of the normal shift pattern

3. The role holder will be able to work within the Safeguarding arena following organisation policies and procedures, be able to Recognise; Respond to; Report and Record Safeguarding issues and understand and make quality Safeguarding Referrals.

4.Comply with data protection legislation, confidentiality and information sharing policy and procedures and all legislation connected to your work.

5. Respect and value the diversity of the community in which the services works in, and recognise the needs and concerns of a diverse range of survivors ensuring the service is accessible to all.

6. Remain up-to-date and compliant with all organisational procedures policies and professional codes of conduct and uphold standards of best practice.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. Experience in working in a supportive role with families, children and young people (paid or voluntary) - Essential
2. Experience of working with victims of domestic abuse - Desirable
3. Experience of working with families with complex needs - Desirable

4. Experience of working within a multi-discipline team - Desirable

5. Experienced in assessing needs and client focused support planning - Essential

6. An understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children - Desirable

7. An understanding of the needs of vulnerable people generally and of those with mental health, drugs and alcohol issues - Desirable

8. An understanding of the role of statutory agencies in respect of dealing with domestic abuse and supporting children and parents - Essential

9. Good numeracy and literacy skills - Essential
10. Ability to keep accurate records - Essential

11. Ability to use Microsoft word, email and internet - Essential
12. Have a good working knowledge of the local area - Desirable

QUALIFICATIONS
1. A relevant qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience and the ability and commitment to achieve qualification within 6 months of appointment -Essential
2. Safeguarding Children Level 2 or demonstrable equivalent experience and the ability and commitment to achieve qualification within 6 months of appointment - Essential

  • Ability to work outside the normal office hours working flexibly within the shift pattern allocated by the line manager - Essential

  • As you will be driving in the course of your duties we are also bound by law to make sure your vehicle is safe and road worthy. We must see your driving licence, Insurance and MOT before you start work. Also needs to be insured for Business use.
  • We will require two satisfactory references, one of which should be from your most recent/current employer.
