Job description
Applications are invited from individuals with an accredited Biomedical Sciences degree for a 1 year fixed term trainee Biomedical Scientist post, based within the Transplant and Cellular Immunology Laboratory, situated at St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds. The laboratory is accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) and approved for training by the HCPC and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
The Transplant Immunology Laboratory (Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics - H&I) employs the latest technology (PCR based methods, Next Generation Sequencing, flow cytometry) to perform recipient and donor matching and compatibility investigations, in support of regional renal transplant and haematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation programmes. Immunogenetics testing for disease associations and adverse drug reactions are also performed. The Cellular Immunology component of the service uses mainly flow cytometry analysis for CD4/CD8 cell monitoring and in immunodeficiency investigations. This is a forward thinking laboratory with a strong focus on, and involvement with, patient management, where the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills in a specialised range of techniques.
