Applications are invited from highly motivated post graduates with an IBMS approved Biomedical science degree to join our Haematology and Blood Transfusion team at Pathology at Salford and Wigan (PAWS) in the role of Trainee Band 5 Biomedical Scientist. This position is based at our Wigan site. After a period of training, completion of the IBMS registration portfolio and achieving state registration you will take part on the out of hour’s rota on your base site. You may also be required to work at our other NCA sites as required. Ability to travel between sites is essential.
You will need to hold an IBMS approved BSc in Biomedical Sciences however we will also consider students in their final year of an IBMS approved degree. Experience in an NHS Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory is essential.
Main duties of the job
You will rotate across of all sections of the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory and report to the laboratory section managers and the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Manager. You will also help ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation bodies as suitable to your role.
Other main duties:
- To undertake BMS training in the diagnostic, scientific & technical work of the department
- Successful completion of registration portfolio leading to HCPC registration
- To work within the Trust & departmental SOPs and Policies to ensure the delivery of a safe, patient focused & high quality service
- Mandatory participation in out of hours service (once qualified)
- To participate in cross site working

Essential criteria
- IBMS approved BSc in Biomedical Sciences or Approved alternative science degree plus post graduate certificate in Biomedical Science or equivalent (or applicant is in final year of degree)
