Job description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the post of Trainee Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry within the Department of Blood Sciences at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Suitable candidates will possess a BSc Honours Degree accredited by the IBMS for the purposes of obtaining a Biomedical Scientist Registration Portfolio enabling the candidate to realistically achieve HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist within 1 year of commencement of post. Evidence of this will be required at interview.
The successful candidate will follow a training plan within Clinical Biochemistry to enable them to complete the IBMS Certificate of Competence and attain HCPC registration. Some supervised shift working will be required during training. Once qualified the successful candidate will be required to participate fully in the department 24/7 shift rota.
The laboratory is fully equipped with Roche Cobas 8000 automation including CCM pre-analytics at Arrowe Park, and Cobas 6000 at the Clatterbridge site, whilst the protein section houses Sebia Hydrasys and Capillarys equipment. The successful candidate will be expected to work between sites as required.
24/7 working, including night working, is a compulsory part of this post.

Under the supervision of a HCPC registered member of staff:
- To collect evidence in support of the training portfolio competency requirements. Ensure completed training is signed off by a senior member of staff and training manuals are available for review by departmental training officer.
- To maintain a high standard of Health & Safety.
- To maintain a high standard of quality assurance of all test procedures.
- To comply with the departments Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
