Work as part of a team giving great support to local older people, with an opportunity to develop benefits & advice skills.

Contract: Fixed term until 31 st March 2024

Hours: 21 – 35 hours, flexible for right candidate. Weekday daytimes only, no weekends or evenings.

Salary: £25 – 32,000 FTE DOE plus 5% pension contribution

Responsible to: Information & Advice Manager

Location: White House Community Centre, Hampton and at community locations / homes across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Some home working is also possible in line with Hybrid Working Policy.

Age UK Richmond are a local independent charity providing services and support to local older people in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Our well established and busy Information & Advice team provide free & confidential local help – and we currently have an excellent opportunity to join the team in a trainee position.

The role will include:

  • Working with vulnerable older people in Richmond upon Thames, helping them claim welfare benefits and financial support as well as giving them other advice to improve their independence and wellbeing.
  • Working across the areas of our Information & Advice service areas as needed – including our first contact helpline, welfare benefits and Advice Extra.
  • Completing training to learn about the benefits system, safeguarding, case management and develop advice giving skills.
  • Collecting feedback and outcomes from users of the information & advice service.

We are looking for:

- Excellent communication, administration and IT skills, and a proactive and flexible approach.

- A background suggesting genuine interest in working with older & vulnerable people and developing advice skills, and keen to learn.

- Background in social care, information & advice or welfare benefits would be an advantage.
