We are seeking to recruit a Trainee Approved Mental Health Professional to join the Team. This post is open to registered social workers, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, and psychologists who hold the relevant professional regulatory registration and experience.

The Post Graduate Certificate Approved Mental Health Professional academic course is set at accredited master’s level and delivered through University base attendance, remote learning and practice. As a Trainee Approved Mental Health Professional within the Team, you will experience all aspects of role and the service we deliver. You will participate in Triage, support the planning of and attend Mental Health Act assessments and work closely with partners across the system.

Permanent appointment to the Approved Mental Health Professional role will be dependent on the successful completion of the Post Graduate Certificate and approval with Nottinghamshire County Council.

Our service:

Current service provision - Countywide Team comprising of an AMHP Lead, two Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Team Managers (TM) and 18 Full FTE AMHPs to deliver a 24-hour, all age service.

The overriding duty to fulfil Mental Health Act assessments is covered under Section 13 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) which highlights the duty of a local social services authority to consider the assessment of any person found in their area.

AMHPs are mental health professionals who have been approved by the local social services authority to carry out certain duties under the Mental Health Act. They are responsible for coordinating assessments, exploring all least restrictive options to care and treatment and admission to hospital should a person be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.

In addition to undertaking Mental Health Act assessments, the Countywide AMHP team undertakes professional supervision of other AMHPs within the district teams, provides training for up to 8 new AMHPs per year within Nottinghamshire County Council as well as providing training and shadowing opportunities. The AMHP Team plays a key role in multi-agency partnerships across mental health provision which focuses on a whole system approach to bed management, community support and prevention.

About you:

You must be a registered social worker, mental heath nurse, occupational therapist or psychologist with a proven track record of commitment to continued professional development.

You must be committed to the principles of mental health legislation and have a strong focus on recovery, prevention and the promotion of human rights for people experiencing mental ill health and their families.

You should have demonstrable experience in statutory mental health services, with a specific focus on risk management and multi-agency working.

You should be able to evidence initiative, flexibility, resilience and a strong commitment to developing the team and the reputation of the wider service organisation in line with the National AMHP Service Standards (2020).

For an informal discussion regarding this role, please contact: Rebecca McCalla, AMHP Team Manager on 0115 804 1826
