Trainee Accountant

We are excited to be able to offer an excellent opportunity to join a well-resourced Finance function within a forward-looking, dynamic local authority. Following a successful restructure, we are undertaking a recruitment campaign to fill a number of vacant posts, seeking to further strengthen our existing Finance team to support the delivery of the Council’s new and ambitious 4-year Strategic Plan.

Your skills and enthusiasm will be essential as the Council undergoes large-scale transformation and responds to the challenges and opportunities post-COVID and through the on-gong cost of living crisis, which impact our residents and businesses alike. Our borough is a microcosm of London with the fastest population growth in the country because we are a very special place where people want to live and work.

We offer good rewards and a vibrant working environment in which to advance your skills and experience, with plenty of opportunity to expand your learning and career development. Join us and help us make a difference in providing the sound financial environment that enables our front-line services to make it a safer, cleaner, and fairer place for the residents, businesses, and visitors to our Borough.

As part of the Campaign and alongside the other vacancies being separately advertised, we are now recruiting to 2 Trainee Accountant posts on a 3-4 year fixed term contract. The successful candidates will be supported as part of the Council’s Apprenticeship programme to study and achieve the CIPFA Professional Accounting qualification. You will receive a combination of face to face and remote college teaching support and gain a wide variety of experience including the essential finance and accounting tasks through a series of rotations around our core finance teams. Over your training time with us you will progress through your grade range, depending upon your exam success and demonstration of experience obtained, supporting the provision of an efficient, effective and comprehensive financial service for the required range of financial and management accounting, reconciliation, reporting, business partnering and audit tasks as appropriate.

It is desirable, but not essential, that the successful candidates have a minimum 2:1 degree level qualification and important that you can demonstrate your commitment to supporting the work of our Council, aspiring to our TOWER values.

Further information on the role can be found within the attachment you will find at the bottom of this advert on the Tower Hamlets website.
