Responsibilities:
If there is one word that describes the world of freight, it’s variety. You would drive a variety of trains, of varying lengths, weights, loads and products, across a multitude of routes and at various times of day and night meaning no two days are often the same.
As a freight driver you won’t have to worry about keeping track of all the stations stops, aligning yourself to long or short platforms or even worrying about the passengers who in their haste to get on the train ignore the yellow line.
If you’re feeling anxious just thinking about these elements, freight may be for you. It’s fun, it’s challenging and we provide full training to to switch from passenger to freight so expereince in freight is not essentail.
As a Train Driver with GB Railfreight you are in charge of your train, and we trust you to get it where it needs to go, safely and on time. Through your training you will learn to know your train like the back of your hand and even deal with any faults that may arise. We value your knowledge and expertise and encourage you to speak up and bring ideas to the table because there’s no such thing as a bad idea. You are what makes GB Railfreight great, and we do our best to in turn offer you all the support you need.
As no two days are the same you will need a flexible attitude to working hours as shifts can vary and are based on a nominal 34.5 hour (4 day week).
Qualifications:
- Train Driving Experience (passenger or freight).

Candidates must have a clean safety record and must hold a valid UK driving licence.

Route and traction knowledge within the location and surrounding area would be desirable.

Proficient with IT packages such as Word, Outlook and use of iPad for work purposes.

Safety conscious and calm attitude in the event of an emergency situation.

Excellent concentration and observational skills.

Clear and professional communication skills to relay important safety messages.

Customer-focused with excellent problem solving skills.

Must reside within 60 minutes of the work location.
