Job description
We are looking for flexible and self-motivated people to join our professional HRTI enforcement team as Traffic Examiners.
To find out more about the job and to get some advice on the application process, please join us at one of our virtual events where you will have an opportunity to ask questions to DVSA Enforcement and HR. If you are interested please register for one of the events on 30th March at 1pm or 4th April at 6pm.
As a Traffic Examiner you will play a vital role in road safety. To view the role responsibilities, please see the attached candidate pack.
This role is full time only. Applicants who wish to work an alternative pattern are welcome to apply however your preferred working pattern may not be available and you should discuss this with the vacancy holder before applying.

You will have
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to handle challenging conversations.
- Administrative and IT experience that involves following processes, interpreting data and writing detailed reports.
- Being a valuable team member, as well as the ability to work alone.
- Flexibility in terms of working hours and adapting to changes in requirements.
- The ability to probe for information and gather further detail.
- The ability to pay attention to detail.

These roles will follow a shift rota, please see an example of this attached.
These roles are normally full time, but depending upon business needs and requirements, opportunities may exist for part time, job sharing and flexible working.
The Traffic Examiner role can be physically demanding. This includes climbing in and out of HGV cabs, sometimes by the roadside in adverse weather.
You may be required to travel to various DVSA locations in order to carry out your role and there is potential for overnight stays, particularly in the more remote parts of the country. This may also include working outside of normal hours. On overnight allowance is paid to staff for overnight stays.
We offer extensive training at our training centres and you will need to be comfortable using laptop computers and smart phones, as our services become more digital.
We will hold a Reserve List for up to 12 months and will be in touch with the successful candidates when they become available.

Selection process details
The sift is due to take place 18th & 19th April 2023.
Interviews/assessments are likely to be held week commencing 1st May 2023.
This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
We’ll try to meet the dates we’ve set out in the advert. But there may be occasions when these dates will change. We’ll give you plenty of notice of any important dates.
