Job introduction

Love Brighton & Hove?

Would you like to work in a friendly team, earn a great salary and keep our city clean and safe?

We’re on the lookout for people who enjoy working across different locations to join our seasonal public toilet cleansing team.

It’ll involve walking or driving from site to site keeping our public toilets clean, tidy and well stocked.

This is a 4 days on, 4 days off shift pattern with split morning and afternoon shifts and we are also happy to consider part-time options.

If this sounds like a role you’d find rewarding, we’d love to hear from you.

Please apply as soon as possible as applications will be looked at on a weekly basis. If your application is successful you will be invited for an interview.

This role will close when all the positions have been filled.

About the role

Brighton & Hove City Council is recruiting 2 seasonal cleansing operatives to clean public toilets throughout spring and summer.

The job involves:

  • Cleaning sinks and surrounding areas including walls and mirrors
  • Cleaning toilet pans and seats
  • Removing graffiti
  • Sweeping and washing the floors
  • Emptying bins
  • Removing drug paraphernalia safely
  • Replenishing toilet paper and soap
  • Reporting damaged cleaning equipment
  • Reporting maintenance issues such as broken locks and dispensers
  • Walking or driving between the sites to open, clean and close

You will need to be:

  • able to be on your feet all day
  • self-motivated and able to work on your own as well as part of a team
  • hard-working, reliable and responsible
  • able to interact with members of the public

Fixed term until 30th September 2023

Interview date: TBC

If you’d like to find out more, email Joseph Mitchell ([email protected]) or call 07759 135858.

As part of your application, you will need to upload your CV and answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (CV guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk) and Shortlisting questions guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.

If you want support with your application, you can arrange an appointment with Joseph Mitchell to guide you through the process.
