About us

We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research. MRC and UCL have jointly invested £30 million in provision of a dedicated new building in central London for the Institute supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Tissue Curator to join our team. The post-holder will be part of the Laboratory, Safety and Tissue Management Team and will be responsible for day to day tissue and sample storage, access management and database records covering all sites ensuring and enabling researcher access to material for research in a prompt and efficient way underpinning the Institutes multi-disciplinary basic and clinical research programmes. • This is a 3 year fixed term contract in the first instance, available from September 2023. • An acceptable security check is required to carry out this role • We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible. • This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. About you

Substantial experience working in a biomedical research/laboratory environment within an academic, NHS or pharmaceutical setting background is essential as is a good understanding of data protection legislation and GDPR, confidentiality and consent requirements in clinical and medical research. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as are excellent attention to detail and record keeping.
