Therapy Assistant- Gastro Medicine Full Time - 37.5 Hours per week £22,816. - £24,336. A great and friendly place to work, so bring your passion, commitment and expertise and enjoy the opportunities to make a difference every day. #JoinTeamEliot A great opportunity has arisen for either an experienced Band 2, an existing Band 3 Assistant or experienced personnel within the healthcare system, to work as a multiskilled therapy assistant on the Gastro Medicine wards at the George Eliot Hospital. There is 1 WTE posts available, and the role will involve working alongside a team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the delivery of Therapy specific care to the patients on Adam Bede and Mary Garth Wards. The successful applicant can be expected to work alongside the Therapy team in the assessment of a patients physical, functional and social abilities whilst on the ward and deliver the treatment plan as determined by the lead Therapist. Clinical 1.1 To treat and provide quality care to patients as delegated by the responsible therapist within agreed protocols and treatment plans, as documented by the qualified staff. 1.2 Work unsupervised to implement appropriate treatment plans as designated by a senior therapist. Treatment should be delivered in the most appropriate location for the client, adjusting own clinical interventions based on the patients fluctuating needs. 1.3 To ensure methods of treatment, its frequency and review are appropriate to the diagnosis/problem of the patient and within the priorities of the Service. 1.4 Discuss with the registered therapist in the planning, implementation, evaluation and modification of therapy interventions. In particular to be mindful of responses, of the patient, to interventions that may affect their condition, and act accordingly. 1.5 To ensure that all client intervention is documented in a timely, objective and confidential manner via specific therapy notes. 1.6 To ensure that any equipment/mobility aids issued are fit for purpose prior to issuing and equipment stocks are maintained by following the correct re-ordering policy 1.7 To ensure a beneficial and positive communication with clients, their families/carers and other professionals involved, respecting individual needs and promoting user involvement/decision making. 1.8 To ensure all necessary Therapy intervention is undertaken in accordance with departmental policy, and advises the Team Leader or Senior Therapist of an inability to do so. 1.9 To organise and prioritise own daily workload with supervision from the supervising clinician and within the scope of the role. 1.10 To use well developed communication skills to establish good working relationships with colleagues, patients and carers and understanding potential barriers. 1.11 Encourage patients and their carers to actively participate in regaining and maintaining their personal independence through the use of persuasion and motivational skills. 1.12 Deal with sensitive situations or contentious information. 1.13 Use efficient and effective communication methods e.g. appropriate use of electronic communication. 1.14 To participate within peer review and Individual Performance Review being responsible for the production of a personal development plan, ensuring standards are realistic and achievable. 1.15 To be responsible for keeping knowledge updated and to be prepared to undertake further professional/training/research projects for self-development, related to specific areas of expertise. Professional 2.1 To assist in the organisation and supervision of the work Band 2 Therapy Assistants/Technical Instructors undertake. 2.2 To participate within training programmes for therapy staff, students and other professionals, when applicable. 2.3 To promote the status, credibility and professional image of therapy services to other disciplines, to enable them to understand the contribution and effective use of the Service. 2.4 To act in accordance with Trust and Therapy Service policies and procedures. 2.5 To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act and Safety Executive guidance regulations, bringing any defects in equipment/hazards to the attention of the responsible person. 2.6 All employees are subject to the Access to Records & Data Protection Act, and must maintain strict confidentiality in respect of client records. 2.7 To ensure Service requirements for Departmental statistics are implemented precisely and within time limits. 2.8 To deliver an effective service within resources, whilst promoting high professional standards, ensuring service users receive a positive image of Therapy Services. The post holder must inform the Therapy Services Manager of an inability to do so. Organisational 3.0 To undertake any other duties delegated by the Therapy Services Manager commensurate with the grade and experience of the post holder. 3.1 Contribute to the evaluation of the work of therapy services by attending relevant therapy meetings. 3.2 To promote the status, credibility and professional image of therapy services to other disciplines, to enable them to understand the contribution and effective use of the Service. 3.3To act in accordance with Trust and Therapy Service policies and procedures. 3.4To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act and Safety Executive guidance regulations, bringing any defects in equipment/hazards to the attention of the responsible person. 3.5 To deliver an effective service within resources, whilst promoting high professional standards, ensuring service users receive a positive image of Therapy services. The post holder must inform the Therapy Services Manager of an inability to do so 3.6 To carry out ‘housekeeping’ and administrative duties as allocated by Registered Therapist, ordering, receiving, cleaning and labelling of equipment, ensuring buffer stock is maintained, filing, data input, photocopying. 3.7 To participate and support the Therapy staff in audits and research that is undertaken. Communication 4.0 To ensure a beneficial and positive communication with clients, their families/carers and other professionals involved, respecting individual needs and promoting user involvement/decision making. 4.1 To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and occasional aggression caused by frustration, trauma, disability, pain or impaired ability to understand or communicate and to enable patients to come to terms with chronic disability, on a frequent basis. 4.2 To deal with frequent exposure to distressing circumstances e.g (patient death and stress of ITU) and seek out support to help deal with distressing situations The above duties and responsibilities are intended to represent the current priorities and not meant to be a conclusive list, as the role will inevitably vary and develop over time.
