Early Years Alliance has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Recruit to Train Trainee, part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Recruit to Train Programme in partnership with Anna Freud, University College London, and Kings College London (KCL).
The post-holder will be training on the Children & Young People Mental Health (CYP-MH/CYP IAPT) Therapy Course and carrying out clinical work in our service to complement their studies and use their newly developed skills.
We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health practitioners to work and train within our service. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people or families using evidence-based intervention consistent with the course they are attending. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Main duties:
- With the assistance of their line manager/clinical supervisor, trainees accept appropriate referrals.
- Assess clients for suitability for the treatment for which training is provided.
- Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department’s referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.
- Formulate, implement, and evaluate therapy programmes for clients in line with their training modality and experience.
- Involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying therapy formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.
- Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient. This will reflect their part-time work within the host trust or service.
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate and on agreement with the line manager.
- Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service and adhere to service reporting protocols.
Essential criteria:
- Possess a qualification that demonstrates a capacity to complete academic work at postgraduate diploma level.
- Minimum second-class Bachelor’s Degree from a UK University or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology, social work etc). If you do not have a degree level qualification but have relevant professional experience which can be evidenced, you are encouraged to apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Proven professional experience of working with children with behavioural problems and their families in a relevant role; and/or training or experience in a mental-health related profession.
- Possess experience of multi-agency working to improve outcomes for children and young people.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of working with parents to address child behavioural problems and evidence some understanding of the range of factors that can impact on the presentation of those problems.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge and understanding of issues relating to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.

- 2nd stage – successful candidates will be sent to Anna Freud Centre and Kings College for eligibility check
- Offer stage – successful candidates must complete their recruitment checks in conjunction with applying for course directly with Kings College
Whilst this is not a term time only position, the expectation is that annual leave is taken during half terms/school holidays to ensure minimal impact to course work and service delivery.
